HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -
Former Marshall University's men's soccer standout Kolby LaCrone (Zanesville, Ohio) has signed with the USL-1 Cleveland City Stars.
"This is a great opportunity for Kolby to further extend his career at the professional level," head coach Bob Gray said. "Kolby is very passionate about our great game and he has the technical abilities to play at this level."
LaCrone spent his first year at West Virginia University before coming to Huntington in 2006. As a sophomore he scored three goals with eight points. During his junior season, he increased his goal input to seven on the year, which was good enough for a team best.
During LaCrone's senior season, he was forced to miss games due to some injuries but still managed to score three goals including the game winner against then No. 24 SMU, 1-0.
The United Soccer League 1st division is comprised of 11 clubs that span from Portland, Ore. to Puerto Rico with two expansion teams joining in 2010. Overall in all division, the USL is has over 120 teams including first and second division along with women and youth leagues.
The USL 1st division is a great stepping stone to the eventually make it into the MLS," Gray added. "We are very proud of Kolby and this is a great honor for our program as well to have him representing Marshall in the pros. We wish him well and know that he will be both very successful on and off the field."
