HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall men's soccer head coach Bob Gray has announced the hiring of Mike Nissim-Sabat as assistant men's soccer coach.

A native of Fredricksburg, Va., Nissim-Sabat served as the Thundering Herd's volunteer assistant coach last season. He previously was an assistant coach for the men's soccer program at Roanoke College in 2004.

"We are excited about Michael joining our staff full time," Gray said. "He worked extremely hard as a graduate assistant and thus it will be an easy transition for him to step in as the number one assistant. Michael is ambitious, dedicated and extremely loyal to our program and will help us to continue to grow the program."

A 2003 graduate of Mary Washington College, Nissim-Sabat played four years at center midfielder for his alma mater and twice earned Scholar-Athlete All-America honors. He nabbed first-team All-Capital Athletics Conference honors his junior and senior years and was team captain his final three years. Nissim-Sabat also has extensive experience coaching at the youth and club levels.

Nissim-Sabat replaces Paul Meehan, who accepted an assistant coach position at Oregon State.

The Thundering Herd kicks off the 2006 season Aug. 19 with a 7 p.m. home exhibition match with West Virginia at Sam Hood Field.
