Herd Prepares for Season Opener against Wright State

Jackson led the team in scoring last year

Aug. 23, 2012

CHARLESTON, W.Va.- The Marshall University men’s soccer team will entertain the visiting Wright State Raiders at the Trace Fork Soccer Complex in Charleston, W.Va., this Friday night at 7 p.m.

Admission to the event is free and concessions will be available for those fans who wish to witness the Thundering Herd soccer team kickoff the 2012 regular season against a Wright State team that was an impressive 11-7-2 last year.

Having lost last season’s opener 1-0 to the Raiders, Marshall will be looking to exact revenge on a Wright State team that holds a 6-4 all-time series record over the Herd. Marshall’s C-USA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Daniel Withrow, and C-USA All-Preseason Team members Tom Jackson and Anthony Virgara will spearhead the Herd effort as they seek to avoid opening the season with a loss for the second straight year.

Both schools were 0-1-1 in preseason exhibitions this fall and will be playing in their first official match of the 2012 season on Friday.
