HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall men's soccer team lost their season opener on Monday, 2-1 to the St. Peter's Peacocks.

The Herd started off strong, taking the lead on Granit Caushaj's breakaway goal at 36:14 of the first half. Marshall dominated the first half, tallying up 11 shots to two by St. Peter's.

The second half was a different story as the Peacocks scored twice. St. Peter's first goal was scored by Rinaldo Chambers at the 70:13 mark. Storms moved in at about the 75:00 mark and with 9:55 left in the game, Douglas Narvaez scored the game winner for St. Peter's.

The game was stopped with 9:50 left for lightning and was delayed approximately 15 minutes before the game resumed.

"We played two different halves," Marshall head coach Bob Gray said, "we dominated the first half, but our inexperience showed up in the second half and we got out of playing our system.

"It was disappointing, we gave the ball away too many times in the second half, we had the lead, but we just were not able to take care of business and finish it off."

The Herd resumes play on Friday when they will face High Point at Sam Hood Field at 7 p.m.
