MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Marshall men's soccer team hits the road for a match against the Robert Morris Colonials. Kickoff from North Athletic Complex is set for Sunday, Sept. 3, at 1 p.m.
The Thundering Herd is 2-1 after its most recent victory, 3-1 over Duquesne, as head coach Chris Grassie has the Herd using an attacking style. Marshall has outshot its opponents 42-28 and 20-10 in shots on goal.
Freshman Lewis Knight scored two goals for the second time. Knight opened his freshman campaign with two goals in the Herd's home win over UNC Asheville. Fellow freshman Jaime Izquierdo Roiz has notched two goals including the go-ahead goal at Duquesne in the 76th minute. Knight and Izquierdo Roiz have scored all six of Marshall's goals through the first three matches, and both players have one assist each. Junior John Pappas leads the Herd with two assists.
Junior goalkeeper Ben Martinez started the first two matches and is 1-1, while senior Nate Himes started at Duquesne and recorded the win.
Robert Morris is 0-3 to start the year including two overtime losses. The Colonials lost 3-2 at home in double overtime to St. Bonaventure and then 4-3 in overtime at Canisius. Senior Bayley Winkel leads with three goals and one assist. Senior Keane McIvor leads the squad in assists with three.
Senior Winter Fondi has played all 281 minutes in goal for the Colonials. Fondi has recorded 20 saves and allowed 10 goals.
Marshall and Robert Morris have met nine times with the Colonials leading the all-time series 5-3-1. The Herd won the previous matchup in 2015, 3-1 at Hoops Family Field.
