Knight Named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week
First honor for the freshman forward
IRVING, Texas – Marshall men’s soccer freshman forward Lewis Knight was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Knight continues to light up the scoreboard for the Thundering Herd in 2017. The Leeds, England, native scored two more goals this past week giving him a total of seven goals for the year in just seven games.
Knight struck early in Marshall’s 3-0 win over Eastern Illinois with a goal just one minute and 14 seconds into the match. He kept up the pressure throughout the match with six total shots on goal. His second goal of the week came in the 48th minute to break a scoreless tie against Conference USA rival South Carolina. His aggressive play and speed and has forced opponents to keep at least two, if not three, defenders near him at all times.
Knight is among the nation’s leaders in scoring. He is tied for second in goals per game at 1.00 and is third in totals goals scored. He leads Marshall with 15 points for the season which is also tied for fourth in the country.
Marshall is back in action for a non-conference clash Sept. 20 at Northern Kentucky. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
