Men's Soccer on the Road Friday
HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - The Thundering Herd men's soccer team heads to Akron on Friday to face the first place Zips.
Marshall (1-7-0, 0-2-0 MAC)is looking for their first MAC win against Akron (6-2-1, 2-0-0), who sits atop the Mid-American Conference. Granit Caushaj (Chicago, IL) and Kirk Gibson (Allen, TX) lead the way for the Herd with two goals each. The Herd is 0-2-0 in the conference with losses to Western Michigan and Northern Illinois.
Leading the way for the Zips is Alex Odwell with five goals and three assists. The Zips have won their last two games, beating MAC opponents Bowling Green and Buffalo.
This is the first meeting for the two teams since they faced each other last year in the conference semifinals. In that game, Akron beat Marshall, 4-3 in penalty shots after a 2-2 tie through regulation. Marshall is 1-5-1 against the Zips.
Marshall will return home on Sunday, October 5 to fact the Shepherd College Rams. It will be the first meeting between the Herd and the Rams. Shepherd, a member of the WVIAC, sits fifth in the conference with a record of 4-3-2. Their leading scorer is Jamie Ritchie with three goals.
Sunday's game will take place at Sam Hood Field at 1:00 p.m. Admission is free.
