EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Thundering Herd men’s soccer team will face its final non-conference test of the 2012 regular season when it battles the University of Evansville Purple Aces on Saturday in a 7 p.m. showdown at Arad McCutchan Stadium.

Marshall is undefeated in non-conference play and is coming off its second 7-0 victory of the season after defeating Asbury at home on Wednesday night to improve to 8-1-1 for the year. The Purple Aces are 6-3 and riding a two-game winning streak after posting shutout victories over Oral Roberts and Eastern Illinois. Saturday’s match will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Marshall continues to be led in scoring by senior Tom Jackson, who has six goals and three assists, while freshman Jack Hopkins is second on the team with four strikes of his own. Goalkeeper Daniel Withrow has only conceded three goals this season, leading the nation with the least goals allowed and tying a Marshall single-season shutout record after blanking Asbury last match.

The senior keeper can take sole possession of the record with a clean sheet on Saturday, but must be wary of the threat posed by Faik Hajderovic, who leads the Evansville offense with four goals and five assists this season.

The showdown will also serve as a “Kick for the Cure” match to benefit breast cancer research as Evansville players will be wearing pink jerseys in support of the cause. Live stats for the away game may be found by clicking below.
