Knight and Diaz-Salcedo Honored as All-Conference USA Members
Knight named second team and all-freshman, Diaz-Salcedo also second team
IRVING, Texas – Freshman forward Lewis Knight and sophomore defender Carlos Diaz-Salcedo were named to the men’s soccer All-Conference USA teams, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Knight and Diaz-Salcedo were both named to the All-Conference USA second team and Knight was also named to the All-Freshman team.
Knight played in all 17 of the Herd’s matches with 15 starts. The Leeds, England, native led Marshall with nine goals, 21 points and was second on the squad with three assists. He scored two goals in his very first collegiate match against UNC Asheville. Knight knocked in the game-winner with a header against No. 21 Kentucky that gave Marshall its first win over the Wildcats since 2011. He ended the regular season ranked in the top 50 in the country in goals, goals per game and points. Knight put pressure on defenses with his speed and led the Herd with 52 total shots and 34 on goal.
Diaz-Salcedo played and started in 16 matches this season and really stepped up for the Herd in his sophomore season. The defender more than doubled his minutes from last year (521) with 1,358. The Barcelona, Spain, native played every minute of 13 matches including the last 11. Diaz-Salcedo was a key defender for Marshall and one of the big reasons why the Herd outshot its opponents for the first time since 2012. He used his size and speed to cutoff opponents scoring chances. The sophomore also excelled in sending passes to the Herd scorers as he tied for the team lead with four assists.
Marshall returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 4:30 p.m., against Kentucky in the first round on the Conference USA Tournament in Norfolk, Va. All games will be broadcast through CUSA TV and fans can keep up with all of the action through the Championship page.
