IRVING, Texas – Men’s soccer player Jack Hopkins has been honored as a fall recipient for the Conference USA Spirit of Service Award, commissioner Britton Banowsky announced Wednesday.
The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport.
The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with Wednesday’s honorees representing Conference USA's fall sports: football, soccer, volleyball and cross country.
One student-athlete from each member school is represented during each wave of honorees.
Hopkins, a freshman for the Thundering Herd, played 17 matches for the Thundering Herd and netted four goals, while taking an active role in the Huntington community.
The physical therapy major from Birmingham, Ala., reads to local elementary school students, is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, helps lead food drives and volunteers his time with Habitat for Humanity. Hopkins spent a portion of his summer volunteering at an orphanage in Haiti.
On the field, Hopkins, who scored back-to-back golden goals for the Herd in wins over Radford and Memphis, was selected to the C-USA All-Freshman team. His four goal total ranked him second on the team.
