Marshall Women's Basketball Postgame Quotes

Nov. 27, 2013

Recap |  Final Stats

Matt Daniel, head coach
Opening Statement “We’re playing good basketball. I have a smile on my face, because I’m happy for our girls, but it’s the same basketball. Today it paid off. We just have a young team, and we just need to learn to close out wins. We need to drop the hammer on people, and that is what we did in the second half.”

On what phase this team is in “I think we’re learning about adversity. If you think about what we have done, we’ve had adversity all season. They’re diving in the stands for loose balls, because they’re starving for an outcome that proves their hard work is paying off.”

On what means more – shooting percentage or less turnovers “I don’t know, but I think their experiences is what matters most with this group. Now, I think they like getting stops, because it leads to the shooting percentage. I think they like taking care of the ball because it means more shots. I love this team.”

On turnovers coming off steals “We’re long and active, a little too active. We gave up some baskets, but at least they weren’t three’s. It was challenged jumpers and sometimes layups.”

Norrisha Victrum, sophomore guard
On lessons learned from Indiana State game
“We prepared for it. We only had two days to prepare, they [SIU] had six. We got tired of losing games that we should’ve won. We just buckled up and stayed focused. We didn’t let off the gas. The energy was kept up throughout the game. I think that helped us a lot.”

On the push for extra time in the gym
“I think just wanting to knock down shots when you’re open. I think a lot of players made good decisions with the ball and shot good shots tonight. We have a lot of people on the team that want to work hard, so I think it’s a part of who we are. We want to put up extra shots.”

On letting the game come to them
“That just comes with adversity. When we aren’t scoring, we just want to score so bad that we force things on to us. I think we just let the game come to us today. On defense and with the bench cheering, as well as the fans – it helped us a lot in this game.”

On Suporia Dickens’ game
“I think she played freer today. She wasn’t worrying about mistakes. I think it’s about us winning and trying not to lose. We were all just playing free tonight.”

On not thinking so much and just playing basketball
“We always want Coach Daniel to be happy. We always get up tight, but when we don’t think about it and just have fun, we play better. When we see a smile on Coach Daniel’s face and he doesn’t have to make play calls, we know we’re doing good."

Chukwuka Ezeigbo, junior center
On most complete game played
“This is most definitely the most consistent. The last two games were pretty harsh on us, because we were leading and expecting to win the game. It is a lesson learned. Coach always told us that adversity will hit, so were just preparing for it and we pulled through.”

On rebounding
“Coach always tells us that the lowest man wins, so we were trying to get the possession and work with it. I feel we used it to our advantage this game.”

Suporia Dickens, senior forward
On getting into a rhythm after the first made shot
“It helps me relax when I make the first shot. My confidence builds up.”
