Recap |  Final Stats

Matt Daniel, head coach
Opening Statement
“This is a great way to go into the holidays, especially with everything that we’ve been going through and dealing with. We found a way to win another game today. That’s two in a row and I’m really pleased with the last two team victories that we’ve had. We didn’t shoot the ball great today and we still found a way to win. We shot the ball a little bit better in the second half than we did the first. We defended. We rebounded and there’s balance all over the stat sheet. I’m really proud of our team.”

On differences between the first and second half
“It was basically the same as the last game. These kids are crazy. They settle in a play a little bit. We make adjustments at halftime. We made some adjustments offensively and defensively. I don’t know if everybody does that, but I’m sure they do. Our adjustments tend to work. We usually score more in the second half than we do in the first. It’s been the flip of that this season which is pretty odd for me. It is what it is and I’m glad to be on this side of it.”

On improvements from the free throw line
“Well, they’re all supposed to be able to do that. We haven’t shot the ball well early in the year, but there’s so much adjusting going on. Most the faces out there were new and to fight through that is going to be a process. You have to respect the process. We’re all impatient. Passion has no patience and I’m king of that. They’re not patient either and get frustrations, wearing their emotions on their sleeves. We all have to do a better job and respect the process of what it is. We’re not entitled to winning games. We have to earn them and we earn them from the free throw stripe.”

On Delaware State’s defensive strategy
“We literally, at a couple points in the game, had three kids on the court under 5-foot-6. AJ Johnson did a great job. Chelsey Romero’s size helped us tremendously. Romero had 14 rebounds. They had a kid that hadn’t played in two games and who has a double-double. She averages 23 points a game. We did a great job on those two, but it was just a great, great team effort.”

On the team schedule going forward
“They’re released right after the press conference. They’ll go home and spend time with their families. Those of them that can get home. Erica Woods, being where she’s from, will not be able to get home. She has to do rehab on her ankle anyway. They have to be back on December 26th, by four o’clock. We’ll practice from 6-to-7:15 p.m. and then my staff will go recruiting. We’ll practice the next day which is the 27th and the day after. Then we’ll play Navy, who has back-to-back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances. We will then play the rescheduled game on the 31st. We’ll try to get a win at New Jersey Tech and then open up conference play on national television.”

Norrisha Victrum, sophomore guard
On Delaware State’s defensive strategy
“They were face-guarding me because I was pushing the tempo of the game. We moved McKenzie Akers to the one. Akers played the one in high school, so she was comfortable at it. I know the two position, so I just played the two. They tried to face-guard me, but we adjusted pretty well.”
