ECU Slips Past Marshall in Overtime
After not being able to determine a winner in regulation, Marshall took East Carolina into overtime on Sunday afternoon. It took a last second three-pointer in the extra period to give the Pirates a 63-62 victory over the Thundering Herd.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women’s basketball travels to Greenville, N.C. for a game against East Carolina on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
The Thundering Herd is 6-12 (0-5 C-USA) after recently taking a 61-45 loss to UAB in the Cam Henderson Center on Sunday. Erica Woods led the team with 11 points, while Suporia Dickens had seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Marshall is led by guard Shay Weaver who is averaging 10.2 points per game and is ranked in the top-50 nationally for three-pointers made per game with an average of 2.56.
Forward Chukwuka Ezeigbo leads Marshall on the boards with 6.1 rebounds per game and is one of the most accurate shooters in Conference USA, totaling a 51.5 percent mark from the field to rank third in the league.
East Carolina is 13-5 (3-2 C-USA) after taking down Tulane, 55-52, this past Sunday. The Pirates rank as the second-best defense in C-USA, limiting opponents to 54.7 points per game. Twins Britny and Whitny Edwards lead ECU as Whitny averages 11.6 points per game and Britny averages 11.3. Britny leads the Pirates on the boards with 8.8 rebounds per game, placing her No. 3 in the conference.
ECU leads the all-time series 11-6 after the two teams first met in 1980. Marshall took losses in both contests against the Pirates last season.
