Women's Basketball Travels to UAB

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall women's basketball travels to Birmingham, Ala. to face the UAB Blazers on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
UAB Defense Troubles Herd in 61-45 Loss
Marshall women's basketball struggled putting points up against the No. 33 ranked defense in the nation and took a 61-45 loss against UAB on Sunday afternoon in the Cam Henderson Center.
Marshall (8-15, 2-8 C-USA) is coming off a win against the second-ranked team in Conference USA, UTEP, on Thursday. Four different Marshall players had double-digit point performances including Suporia Dickens (15 points), Shay Weaver (13 points), Erica Woods (12 points), and Leandra King (10 points).
The Thundering Herd totaled 10 three-pointers in the contest and held the No. 11 ranked team in the NCAA in shooting percentage to just 28.8 percent from the field.
Shay Weaver leads Marshall with 9.7 points per game. She has made 56 three-pointers this year, which puts her second all-time in Marshall's history for three-pointers in a season. Chukwuka Ezeigbo follows with 8.1 points per game and is shooting 50.9 percent from the field. She leads Marshall on the boards with 6.3 rebounds per game.
UAB (14-9, 5-5 C-USA) is coming off a 64-57 loss to Memphis on the road Thursday. Their defense ranks No. 55 nationally, limiting opponents to 55.8 points per game and the team places No. 13 in the NCAA for steals with 12.3 per game. Amber Jones, Ashley Grimes and Karisma Chapman each have a plus-12.0 scoring average for the season, while Chapman is the team-leader on the boards with 6.5 rebounds per game.
The Herd took a 61-45 loss to the Blazers earlier this season on Jan. 27. The two teams are now tied in the all-time series, 9-9, after first meeting on December 18, 1995. Marshall is 4-3 on the road against UAB.
