Herd Takes 54-47 Loss to ECU
Marshall women's basketball fell to East Carolina, 54-47, on Thursday evening in Greenville, N.C.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – After earning its second Conference USA win against UTEP this past week, Marshall women’s basketball is set to play Eastern Carolina in the Cam Henderson Center at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday.
Shay Weaver leads Marshall with 9.6 points per game. She has made 59 three-pointers this year and is chasing after Marshall’s single season record of 68 three-pointers set by Kizzy Hart in the 2007-08 season. Chukwuka Ezeigbo follows Weaver with 8.2 points per game and also leads the team in rebounds with an average of 6.3 per game. Ezeigbo is the second-most accurate shooter in Conference USA, shooting 51.4 percent from the field.
East Carolina (18-6, 8-3 C-USA) is coming off two wins this past week, one of which was a 63-47 victory over the top team in Conference USA, SMU. The Pirates currently rank second in league standings and are one of the top defenses in the nation, ranking No. 38 after limiting opponents to 54.5 points per game.
Whitny Edwards leads ECU with 12.2 points per game, while Celeste Stewart totals 11.6 ppg and Britny Edwards averages 10.3 ppg. Britny Edwards leads the Pirates on the boards with 8.6 rebounds per game, which ranks fifth in Conference USA.
The Herd took a loss to ECU on the road earlier this season, falling to the Pirates 54-47 on Jan. 31. ECU has won the past seven meetings and leads the all-time series 12-6 after first playing the Herd on January 3, 1980.
