Women's Basketball Looks to Retaliate on a National Stage

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Marshall women’s basketball is set to take the national stage as it travels to Greenville, N.C., for a rematch with East Carolina on Sunday afternoon.  Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m., against the Pirates, with the game being televised by CBS College Sports.

The Thundering Herd (8-19, 4-10 C-USA) snapped a two-game winning streak win a 72-54, loss to first place Houston on Thursday night.  Veronica Ruiz and Tynikki Crook each snagged double-doubles in the loss to lead the Herd.  Ruiz poured in a career-high 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds, while Crook finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

East Carolina has won two of its last three coming into Sunday’s contest.  The Pirates fell at the hands of UCF 69-52, but rebounds against Tulsa, 65-55, on Thursday night.  ECU sent three players into double-digits against the Golden Hurricane, including Allison Spivey’s 15 points on five-of-11 shooting from beyond the arc.  Kim Gay stands as the only player averaging double-figures this season, at 12.2 points per game. 


 

 

 

Earlier this season the Thundering Herd fell at the hands of East Carolina 61-43.  Crook entered the top-five in scoring on Marshall’s career record list following a 15 point effort, but East Carolina sent four player into double-figures.  Spivey, Celeste Stewart and Shala Hodges shot a combined nine-for-17 from three point range on the night.  Spivey led the charge with 18 points.
