@HerdWBB Welcomes Two Newcomers
Moore, Zhiberava headed to Huntington
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Women’s Basketball has added 6’0” guard Tyasia Moore and 6’0” forward Ekaterina “Kate” Zhiberava to its program, head coach Tony Kemper announced Thursday.
Moore, a Forestville, Md. Native, averaged 16.8 points, 13.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 5.0 steals per game as a junior at Forestville Military Academy, helping the school win a state title and securing conference MVP, all-state and all-district honors along the way. As a senior, she led Forestville to its second-straight title and a 24-2 record, while upping her steals to 5.5 per game and adding 1.8 blocks to her stellar all-around game.
“Tyasia is a very talented, versatile player who dominated in one of the nation’s great areas for high school girls basketball,” said Kemper. “She was the area player of the year and led her team to two state championships. Her ability and energy for the game will be huge assets to our program.”
Zhiberava, who will have two years of eligibility, comes to Huntington from New Mexico Junior College. The Liski, Russia native helped the Thunderbirds achieve a 21-7 record in 2016-17 and averaged 6.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 77 percent from the free throw line.
“Kate is a winner,” Kemper said. “She competed for one of the best junior college programs in the country and made a tremendous impact for the program on and off the floor. She has ability to score around the rim and stretch the defense to the 3-point line. Her positive energy will help lead our program from the moment she gets here.”
The program boasts the 34th-ranked recruiting class nationally after ranking 52nd in 2015.
