Chadwick Receives Contract Extension
Fourth-Year MU Coach Signed Through 2008-09 Season
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University head women’s basketball coach Royce Chadwick received a one-year contract extension on Wednesday, securing the services of the fourth-year Thundering Herd coach through the 2008-09 season.
“I’m honored and very excited,” Chadwick said. “It’s flattering to be at such a great place and know you have the opportunity to be here for a long period of time. I’d like to thank (athletic director) Bob Marcum, (university president) Dan Angel and (head football coach) Bob Pruett for all the great things they do for our program and Marshall athletics as a whole.
“Dr. Angel showed me the potential of Marshall University and I’m very appreciative for his efforts.”
Chadwick and Angel both worked together in the same capacity at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas, in the late 1990s.
Chadwick has led Marshall to a 39-48 record in his three years in Huntington, a vast improvement for a program that went 30-81 in the four years prior to his arrival.
“Our women’s basketball program has continued to improve year after year, and that is a credit to Royce, his staff and his players,” Marcum said.
“It’s a vote of confidence for the great job he’s done here,” Angel said. “The success of this program is almost at a 100 percent improvement from where it was, and we’re excited for the chance to get to the NCAA Tournament this season.”
Chadwick, 46, is a former Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National Coach of the Year and has over 400 career collegiate victories. Entering his 21st season as a college head coach, Chadwick led Stephen F. Austin to seven NCAA Tournament appearances which includes a Sweet 16 berth in 1996.
