Shepard-Hall Nabs Preseason MAC Honor
Junior Guard Named to All-MAC East Division Team
Sikeetha Shepard-Hall led Marshall in scoring during her freshman and sophomore seasons.
CLEVELAND – For the second consecutive season, Marshall University guard Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) was named to the women’s basketball preseason All-Mid-American Conference East Division team, the league office announced today. MAC News Media Association members voted for the teams.
Shepard-Hall, a junior, led the Thundering Herd in scoring (11.8 ppg) in 2003-04. She also paced Marshall in several other offensive categories, including field goals made/attempted (116/308), 3-point field goals made/attempted (38/119), free throws made/attempted (85/120) and minutes (28.2/game).
Shepard-Hall was named an All-MAC Honorable Mention last season, as well as an All-Freshman Team member in 2002-03.
“It’s exciting for the team to have a player recognized,” Marshall head coach Royce Chadwick said. “It’s a great tip-off to what we believe will be a very promising season.
“Sikeetha would prefer to take the team with her to Cleveland (for MAC media day), but she’ll get that opportunity in March.”
In the 2004 MAC Tournament, Shepard-Hall averaged 17.3 points per game, the most of any player to play in at least three tournament contests. She scored a team season-high 26 points in an upset of No. 3 Kent State in the quarterfinals and set career highs in 3-point field goals (5), steals (5, twice) and assists (7) within the first two rounds of the tournament.
Marshall opens its regular season on Nov. 19 when it plays host to Texas-Pan American in the opening round of the third annual Fifth Third MU Classic.
