HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women’s basketball team will be hosting an open practice on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Cam Henderson Center. The event is open to all Marshall fans.
The event will be a chance for Herd fans to meet the 2017-18 women’s basketball team and the coaching staff.
“We are excited about the opportunity for our fans to interact with our team,” first year head coach Tony Kemper said. “Should be an exciting day for Marshall women’s basketball and Herd Athletics.”
Kemper took over the helm in March after being an assistant and associate head coach the previous five seasons.
There will be a team meet and greet as well as a “Chalk Talk” with coach Kemper. Kids will be allowed to shoot on the court.
Marshall returns nine players and features five newcomers. The Thundering Herd is led by senior Talequia Hamilton and junior Shayna Gore. Hamilton is one of the top shot-blockers in Herd history with 92 in her career, good for sixth all-time. She tied for the third most rejections in a season with 54 this past season. Hamilton teamed with now sophomore Ashley Saintigene for 96 total blocks. Gore is quickly approaching 1,000 career points as she needs just 129 more to become the 21st player in program history to reach the milestone.
The women’s basketball team will begin its season on Friday, Nov. 11, at home against the Longwood Lancers.
