Late Surge Topples Ball State 60-58
The Marshall women's basketball team celebrated New Year `s Eve with a late comeback win over Ball State, 60-58. The Herd took over the lead with 4:50 left in the game after trailing for the majority of the contest and secured the win with a solid free throw performance in the closing minutes.

The contest will follow a noon kickoff for Marshall football and all game tickets from the Thundering Herd football game will grant free admission into the women's basketball game.

Ball State leads the all-time series 10-5, but Marshall has won the past two meetings, defeating the Cardinals, 60-58, on the road last year and winning in 2005, 71-50, at home.

Marshall is coming off a 55-49 defeat to Indiana State on Monday, marking the Herd's first road loss. Sophomore Chukwuka Ezeigbo led Marshall in points (12), rebounds (8) and blocked shots (7). Her seven blocked shots ties for fifth all time for blocks in a game in Marshall's history. The Herd hasn't seen a player earn seven blocks since Feb. 2, 1980 when Thea Garland and Debbie Soloman both booked seven against Kentucky State.

The Herd is led by Shay Weaver, who totals 14.0 points per game, going 10-for-18 from the field this season. Suporia Dickens follows with 9.0 points per game, while Ezeigbo has a team-high 11 rebounds in the young season.

Ball State recently took a 70-62 loss to Bulter, dropping to 0-2 for the season. Nathalie Fontaine leads the Cardinals with 13.5 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game. Brandy Woods follows with 12.0 points per game and adds a team-high seven steals and seven assists.
