Catie Knable Has A Career Night To Lead Marshall Over Morehead State, 72-61
MOREHEAD, KY..--The Marshall Thundering Herd (3-2) used a career high 24 points by junior Catie Knable to get a come-from-behind victory over the Morehead State Eagles (3-1), 72-61. Knable also added 16 rebounds in the Herd’s winning effort.
“We played with a lot of intensity on the defensive end in the second half, and I felt that was the difference in the game,” said Marshall head coach Royce Chadwick. “We played great defense and we got stops when we needed them.”
The Thundering Herd ended the first half on a six-point run, closing the Morehead State lead that had grown to as many as nine to five at 32-27. The Lady Eagles took advantage of a two minute Marshall scoring drought to turn a two-point game into a seven-point lead at 26-19 earlier in the period.
The second half was a different story, as Marshall came out with more intensity than what they showed in the first half. The Thundering Herd went on an 8-4 run to start the second period, narrowing the Lady Eagle lead to two to make the score 37-35. Two minutes later, with the score tied at 41, the Thundering Herd went on a 6-0 run to take a 47-41 lead. The Lady Eagles then put together an 8-1 run of their own to inch ahead of the Herd 49-48 with 7:20 to play. An Ida Dotson jumper, a Catie Knable layup, and an Amy Smith layup later, Marshall went ahead for good at 54-49. Clutch free-throw shooting kept the homestanding Eagles out of contention down the stretch.
Also contributing for Marshall was Amy Smith, who had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Ida Dotson, who added 12.
The Thundering Herd take on Radford on December 14th at 7 p.m. in Radford, Va.
