HUNTINGTON, W.VA. – Marshall (5-2) returns to Cam Henderson this Saturday to take on Cincinnati (6-1) at 7:00 p.m. ET for the 11th annual Jam the Cam game.
The first 500 people to arrive to the Cam Henderson Center will receive a free backpack including a free koozie and frisbee, courtesy of the Joan C. Edward School of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Tickets will be offered at the gates for $1.
Also in conjunction with Jam the Cam, a variety of Marshall athletic sponsors will be available at the Cam Henderson concourse an hour prior to the game to give away promotional items and informational material.
Already scheduled to be in attendance will be former Marshall women’s basketball star, Kristina Behnfeldt. She returns to the Cam Henderson Center as the second all-time leading scorer in Marshall history after combing for 2,117 career points.
The Herd enters the game against the Bearcats with a four game win streak after going 2-0 this past weekend at the Aces Winter Classic and earning the championship title. Alyse Poindexter was crowned the tournament MVP, while Erica Woods was named to the All-Tournament team.
Marshall welcomes the return of Shynisha Johnson for Saturday’s contest after the team’s leading scorer was forced to sit out this past weekend due to injury. Johnson currently leads the Herd in points per game with a 12.6 average and accounts for 14 of the 30 three-pointers the Herd have made on the year. She boasts a .538 three-point percentage which ranks her 8th nationally and combines for 63 points for the year.
Head coach Royce Chadwick’s team is also led by Jasmine Shaw, who marks 8.7 points per game and a .537 percent average from the field. Erica Woods leads the team in rebounds with 6.9 per game, ranking her 12th in Conference USA. Alaya Mitchell and Dorina Barrett both total a team-high 16 assists, while Mitchell is also tied with Victoria Wells for the most steals with 19. Leandra King and Alyse Poindexter have added nine and eight blocks, respectively.
The Bearcats’ record is 6-1 for the season, with their only loss coming against Xavier this past weekend, 69-60. Before the Xavier defeat, the Bearcats marked a five game win streak and claimed the Cancun Challenge championship title in late November.
Cincinnati is led by Bjonee Reaves with 14.3 points per game, while combining for a 40 percent average from beyond the arc and a team-high 100 points for the season. Dayeesha Hollins follows closely with 97 total points and also leads the team in steals with 18. In the paint, Tiffany Turner leads the team in rebounds with 7.6 per game and records 53 boards for the year.
