Herd Women to Conclude Home Non-Conference Schedule on Monday Versus Austin Peay

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women’s basketball team will face the defending Ohio Valley Conference champion Austin Peay Lady Govs on Monday at the Cam Henderson Center in the finale of its season-opening, six-game home stand this season. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
Marshall (5-0) is off to its best start in 32 years after putting together five consecutive double-digit victories to christen year three of the Royce Chadwick era with the Thundering Herd. The program got an added boost when Marshall received its first ever Top 25 votes, garnering four votes in this week’s ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
Austin Peay (3-3) is coming off a 69-53 victory over the Mid-American Conference’s Ohio Bobcats on Saturday in Athens, Ohio. Sophomore guard Kera Bergeron led the Lady Govs in scoring with 18 points, all of which came from three-point land on 6-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc.
Sophomore Sikeetha Shepard-Hall (Houston, Texas) leads the Herd in scoring with 12.2 points per game, followed by senior Amy Smith (Ramstein, Germany) with 10.2 ppg. Senior forward/center Catie Knable (Floyd Knobs, Ind.) has posted two straight double-doubles, leading the team with 8.6 rebounds per game.
Marshall ranks first in the NCAA in rebounding margin (+16.8) thus far in the season, and is seventh in the nation in scoring margin (27.6/game), 12th in steals (13.8/game), 16th in field goal percentage defense (33.6/game) and 17th in scoring offense (80.4 ppg) and scoring defense (52.8 ppg).
Austin Peay and Marshall have met only one time, Dec. 7, 1984, with the Lady Govs pulling out a 75-74 victory in a neutral site game in Terre Haute, Ind.
