Herd Women’s Basketball to host Kentucky Christian

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women’s basketball team hosts the Kentucky Christian Knights on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m., in the Cam Henderson Center.
The Thundering Herd is 3-7 and the Knights are 7-8.
This will be the first regular season meeting between the two teams. Marshall played Kentucky Christian in an exhibition game on Nov. 4, 2015. The Herd won 113-36.
Last Time Out
The Herd fell in a close contest with Appalachian State on Saturday, Dec. 16, 56-54. Three players for the Mountaineers scored in double-figures. For Marshall, redshirt senior Talequia Hamilton recorded her third double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds and added two blocks. Junior Shayna Gore scored 15 points and moved into 18th place on Marshall’s all-time scoring list with 1,037, moving ahead of Robin Vealey (1972-76). Sophomore Ashley Saintigene recorded three more blocks to move into 15th place all-time with 58 for her career.
Scouting the Knights
Kentucky Christian is 7-8 this season and has been very up and down in the early going. The Knights seven wins have come by an average margin of 15 points. The eight losses have been by an average margin of 33.4 points. The Knights only game so far against NCAA Division I competition was a 115-39 loss at Morehead State. Junior guard Lexie Gilliland leads the team in scoring with 13.5 points per game. Senior guard Faith Conn has been the leading rebounder with 8.3 boards per contest. The team is shooting 38.3 percent from the floor and 31.3 percent from three.
