HUNTINGTON, W.VA. – After suffering their first loss in 39 days this past week to Furman, the Marshall women’s basketball team looks to redeem themselves in one of the final games of the 2011 year against Tennessee Tech. The game is scheduled to tip-off in Cookeville, Tenn. on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
Marshall looks to earn their first win in the all-time series against Tennessee Tech on Wednesday. The last time the two programs met was December 6, 1985 and the Golden Eagles took home a 81-64 win. The contest will be the fifth meeting between the two teams.
Junior guard Shynisha Johnson leads the Herd with 7.9 points per game and maintains a 44.1 percent average from beyond the arc. In the blocks, Erica Woods leads the team with 65 total rebounds, while Leandra King has a team-high 27 offensive rebounds and 57 total boards. King also leads the team in blocks with 15 and Victoria Wells adds 26 steals to the defensive effort. For the year, Marshall is outscoring their opponents by an average of 9.2 points, while averaging a 34.1 percent mark from behind the arc. Marshall also totals 12.2 steals per game and forces their opposition to turn the ball over 22.5 times per contest.
Tennessee Tech enters the game a 4-8 record for the season and most recently took a loss to Louisiana Tech, 82-64. The Golden Eagles’s four wins came against East Tennessee State, Tennessee Wesleyan, Western Kentucky, and ULM. Tacarra Hayes leads the Golden Eagles with 18.2 points per game, while tallying 66 grabs off the glass. Hayes also has a team-high 16 steals. Brittany Darling adds 15 blocks and combines for 7.1 points per game.
