HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Following inclement weather in the second and third day of the C&F Bank Intercollegiate at the River Course in Kingsmill Resort, Marshall women’s golf finished the second and final round of the tournament with a team score of 327 to place them 18th of the 28-team field.
As a team, Marshall finished 88 over par and combined for a total tally of 656. Boston College took home the tournament title after finishing plus-30 on the scorecard. The Eagles’ Vinh-Hoa Ngo claimed the individual title after finishing the invitational three over par.
The Thundering Herd was led by junior Rachel Thompson, who combined for a 154 after a five over par (76) second round. The score tied her for 21st individually. Sophomore Korakot Simsiriwong also scored a 76 for the second round and finished 157 for the tournament, which tied her 38th individually.
“Despite how the scores may look, I am seeing a lot of progress,” said head coach Meredith Knight Rowsey. “I look forward to our team peaking at the end of the season as we approach the Conference USA tournament.”
Senior Maria Battaglia tied for 94th individually after shooting 167 for the tournament. Twin sisters Caitlyn and Kristyn Morrone were one stroke apart from each other as Caitlyn finished 180 for the event and Kristyn finished 181.
Marshall will play in one final tournament before embarking on the Conference USA Championships. The Herd travel to Dallas, Texas to participate in the DAC/SMU Invitational from April 5-7.
