Thompson, Herd Finish Fourth at EKU Colonel Classic
Marshall improves by 24 strokes in final round

RICHMOND, Ky. – Led by senior Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio), the Marshall women’s golf team finished fourth in a 12-team field at the EKU Colonel Classic at Arlington Golf Club in Richmond, Ky., Saturday.
The Herd improved by 24 strokes from the first round, Friday, posting a 17-over-par 205 to total 58-over 634 for the tournament. Host Eastern Kentucky took the victory at 40-over 616, followed by Morehead State and No. 88 Xavier (GolfStat.com).
Thompson placed fourth individually, tying with six other golfers at 11-over 155. She sunk the second-most birdies of the tournament with four, and tied for the best par-5 scoring at an even 5.00. Four of the five Herd golfers improved their scores from the first day, with junior Korakot Simsiriwong (Narathiwat, Thailand) posting the largest difference, 11 strokes better than the first round at 2-over 74, totaling 15-over 159. She had the third-most pars of the tournament with 23.
Due to inclement weather conditions, the tournament format was changed from two 18-hole rounds on the first day to a single round, and a final 18-hole round was played Saturday.
At the conclusion of the final round, Marshall stood as follows:
