Final - C-USA Championship
GULF SHORES, Ala. – To conclude the 2013-14 season, Marshall women’s golf carded its best round of the three-day, 54-hole Conference USA Championship with a 12-over-par 300 final showing, Wednesday, at Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club.
The Thundering Herd finished in 10th in the 13-team field, tying UTEP at 55-over 919. No. 34 Tulane (Golfweek) took home the victory with a tournament-record 8-under 856. UTSA’s Fabiola Arriaga won individual medalist honors after recording a 9-under 207 to tie the C-USA Championship individual record for 54 holes.
Playing in the final round of her Marshall career, senior Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) improved by one stroke from the previous round with a 2-over 74 day, totaling 6-over 222 for the tournament. She finished in a four-way tie for 21st in the individual field to lead the Herd.
Another positive for Marshall came in the form of Korakot Simsiriwong’s (Narathiwat, Thailand) two eagles, most of all 65 participants. Both of her eagles came on par-5 hole No. 15 in the first and third rounds.
In the final round, Marshall scored:
Rachel Thompson – T21 (73-75-74=222)
Korakot Simsiriwong – T40 (81-74-75=230)
Sarah Helly – T44 (78-78-75=231)
Gabby Marcum – T51 (85-75-76=236)
Natalie Irwin – 65 (85-85-90=260)
