Marshall Sits in Seventh After Day One|

LEDBETTER, Ky.-- The Marshall women's golf team concluded Day One of the Murray State Drake Creek Invitational in seventh place on Monday. The Thundering Herd had a 65-over-par final score of 641 after 36 holes of action.
In the first round, Murray State had a 297 (+9) that was good enough for first place. Western Kentucky trailed in second with a 299 (+11), while Belmont University fell into third with a 302 (+14).
The Herd ended the first nine holes with a 325 (+37) that slid them into ninth place. Junior Korakot Simsiriwong (Narathiwat, Thailand) tied for fourth with a score of 74 (+2). Simsiriwong led Round One of the invitational with four birdies. Senior Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) shot a 78 (+6), which put her in an eight-way tie for 20th.
Marshall passed two teams in Round Two, after Simsiriwong shot a 71 (-1) that carried her into the overall second place slot with a final Day One score 145 (+1). In 36 holes of action, she shot eight birdies. Simsiriwong and freshman Ashley DeMoss, as well as Jessica Cathey of Austin Peay State University shared the best par three shooting of the invitational with a 2.83 (-1).
The Herd ended the day just two strokes behind sixth place holder Austin Peay State University. Individually, Simsiriwong finished only five strokes behind first place Delaney Howson of Murray State.
