HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall women's golf team finished in front of five teams in the first round of the Preview Monday in Fishers, Ind.  The Thundering Herd ended in 11th place after 18 holes of action with a 43-over-par 331 team score.

"We left a lot of strokes out there, but will have a good chance to move up tomorrow," coach Meredith Knight Rowsey said.

Senior Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) was at the helm of the team, shooting an 8-over 80 at the Hawthorns Golf & Country Club to put her in a tie for 20th. Junior Korakot Simsiriwong's (Narathiwat, Thailand) first round on the 6,127-yard course placed her in a tie for 27th after finishing with a 9-over 81 total score.

"It was definitely a struggle today," Rowsey added. "The practice round was rained out yesterday, and it was a fairly tough course to play without that. That explains all our high scores."

Toledo currently stands in first place heading into the final day of the Preview with a 16-over 304, with host school Ball State trailing by seven strokes with a 23-over 311.

The five-member team will play its second and final round Tuesday with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.

After the first round of action, the team stands:

Rachel Thompson: T20 (80)

Korakot Simsiriwong: T27 (81)

Ashley DeMoss: T32 (82)

Gabby Marcum: T76 (88)

Sarah Helly: T76 (88)
