Herd Women's Golf Wins Shirley Spork Invitational

YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Marshall women's golf team won its second competition of the 2017-18 season, taking the Shirley Spork Invitational Tuesday afternoon. The Thundering Herd won the event by 16-strokes.
Four of Marshall's five finished in the top 10. Junior Ylva Forslund came in second. Forslund fought back after shooting a 4-over 76 in the first round. She scored a 1-under 71 in round two and a 1-over 73 in the third and finished just two shots off the lead. Freshman Stormy Randazzo came in fourth, just six shots back.
Freshman Kerri Parks finished tied for seventh. Parks struggled through the first round with an 8-over 80, but then came roaring back with a 1-under 71 in the second round including a hole-in-one on the sixth hole. Sophomore Shelby Brauckmuller (tied for 10th) finished strong to get back into the top 10 for the third time this season.
Marshall has brought back a trophy from all three of its tournaments this fall. The Herd won the Roseanne Schwartz Invitational (Sept. 4-5), was the runner-up at the Starmount Forest Fall Classic (Oct. 2-3) and now taking the Shirley Spork Invitational.
Julia Champion of Western Michigan finished as the individual winner and Bowling Green was the runner-up in the team competition.
