FAIRLAWN, Ohio- Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio) shot an 81 in the final round of the Third Annual Zippy Invite at Rosemount Country Club on Tuesday afternoon to jump the Marshall women's golf team up one spot.
The Thundering Herd tied for seventh with California, posting a 54-hole total of 991 (319-337-335=991).
Host, Akron was able to hold on to its lead (314-308-328=950), despite Grand Valley State shooting a Tuesday-low 318 to come within four strokes (322-314-318=954) of the Zips. Bucknell (324-316-329=969), Detroit Mercy (325-323-324=972) and Ohio (321-322-332=975) rounded out the top five of the 12 team event.
Grand Valley State's Sarah Hoffman (76-73-77=226) slipped away with a one stroke victory over Akron's Kristen Hill (79-73-75=227) to earn the tournament victory.
Ginger's 81 tied her for 16th with a 243 total (77-85-81=243). In her past two tournaments, Ginger leads the Herd with a 79.5 scoring average through six rounds of play.
Elin Andersson (Stockholm, Sweden) improved six strokes on day two while carding an 82 to finish with a 251 (81-88-82=251).
Allison Harper (Upper Arlington, Ohio) and Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) each recorded an 86 in the final round.
The Thundering Herd returns to tournament action on Oct. 25-26 when it travels to the Lady Tiger Invitational hosted by Memphis.
