GOLF SHORES, Ala.- Marshall’s Larie Lynch (Huntington, W.Va.) improved by four strokes on day two of the UAB Blazer Fall Beach Blast, to shoot a 150 (77, 73: 150) overall and led MU to a sixth place finish. The Herd shot a 307 in round two (308, 307: 615) and missed a top-five finish by three strokes in its final tournament of the fall season.
The two-day tournament included 12 participating teams and took place at the Peninsula Golf Club in Golf Shores, Ala.
Lynch matched her season low in the second round of play to finish the tournament tied for eighth. Andrea Grier (Hagerstown, Md.) ended just two strokes behind Lynch with a 152 (74, 78: 152), tied for 11th.
Samantha DiDomenico (Follansbee, W.Va.) shot a 76 on day two, improving eight strokes from round one.
Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio) and Maria Battaglia (Uniontown, Pa.) both shot 80’s in round two, to round out the Herd squad.
“I felt like we played well,” head coach Meredith Knight Rowsey said. “We left some shots out there but we are steadily improving every tournament.”
Conference USA foe Memphis won the event shooting a combined 595 (300, 295: 595) in two rounds of action. Samford University (301, 304: 605) placed second, one stroke ahead of Arkansas State University (306, 300: 606) and Louisiana at Monroe (307, 299: 606), who each tallied a 606. Middle Tennessee State University (297, 315: 612) dropped four places following day two, to round out the top-five.
UAB’s Carolyn Cochran shot a tournament-low 70 on day two and went on to win the individual event with a 142 (72, 70: 142).
