The Thundering Herd drop on day two

MOBILE, Ala.- The Marshall Women’s Golf drop one spot on day two, as it placed 13th out of 16 teams in the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Ala. at Azalea City Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.
The Thundering Herd concluded the first round of play standing in 12th place, while the second round of the tournament was postponed on Monday after experiencing heavy rain. Tuesday began with the remaining holes of round two, followed by the third and final round.
MU finished-up second round action with a combined 337 and lost a stroke in the last 18 holes shooting a 338.
Andrea Grier (Hagerstown, Md.) led Marshall in each round of the tournament and earned her fifth career top-10 finish, as she placed tied for 8th (75-77-79=231).
Larie Lynch (Huntington, W.Va.), Molly Ginger (Centerville, Ohio) and Samantha DiDomenico (Follansbee, W.Va.) each consistently shot in the 80’s throughout the tournament, finishing tied for 62nd (84-85-83=252), tied for 68th (84-86-87=257) and tied for 71st (84-89-89=262), respectively.
Maria Battaglia (Uniontown, Pa.) rounded out the squad placing 74th, shooting a 266 (87-89-90).
Memphis overtook defending tournament champions, Florida International with a 304 in the final round to earn the victory (309-300-304).
Memphis’s Marissa Steen (75-73-74=222) tied with Stetson’s Lauren Cate (73-75-74=222) following 54-holes of play, but Steen took the playoff victory.
MU returns to tournament action on March 15 and 16 at the Winthrop Intercollegiate in Rock Hill, S.C.
