CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. Ė The Marshall womenís golf team, which hosted the third annual Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate, finished in second place at El Diablo Golf and Country Club behind newly crowned champion Coastal Carolina on Tuesday.

The Herd (946) finished 36 strokes behind Coastal Carolina (908) for the team championship.

The Lady Herd/El Diablo Intercollegiate, played on a par 72, 5,942-yard course, was won by Coastal Carolinaís Katy Heher. The sophomore shot a 4-over 76 in the final round to edge out Florida Gulf Coast freshman Heather Hagerman by one stroke for the tournamentís individual title. Heherís 222 (72-74-76) was good enough to hold off Hagermanís 223 (77-71-75).

Marshall sophomores Amber Churchill (Dublin, Ohio) and Tammy Mahar (Ashland, Ky.) were the Herd's high finishers at El Diablo with scores of 231 and 234, respectively. Churchill (75-77-79) finished in a three-way tie for sixth place with a pair of Coastal Carolina golfers in Natalie Cruse and Lindsey Letzig. Mahar (12th) shot her high score of the tournament in the final round with a 10-over 82 after carding MU's low score of 2 over in round one.

Stacy Wagner (Harmony, Pa.), also a sophomore, claimed Marshallís best single-round score of the tournament with a 1-over 73 in the second round, which was finished just prior to the start of Tuesday's final round. Wagnerís 73 is the second best single-round total of the season, behind Churchillís even-par 71 at the Rio Verde Invitational.

Lightning and thunderstorms cut Mondayís second round short and forced its postponement until Tuesday morning.

Defending champion Western Carolina finished the event in third place with a score of 949 (323-311-315).
