Women's Golf Team to Compete in Cardinal Cup
Entering in the Cardinal Cup is a first for the women's golf team.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Marshall women's golf team will head to Simpsonville, Ky., to compete in the Cardinal Cup Sept. 16-17.
There will be 13 schools and 12 individuals competing in the Herd's first Cardinal Cup appearance, hosted by Louisville.
Freshman Ashley DeMoss (Pittsburgh), sophomore Natalie Irwin (Columbus, Ohio), juniors Sarah Helly (Enniscrone, Ireland) and Korakot Simsiriwong (Narathiwat, Thailand) and senior Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio) are on the five-member Marshall team. The Herd will not have any individual entries.
Competition for the 54-hole, stroke-play tournament will begin Monday with an 8:40 a.m. shotgun start. The format features 36 holes on Monday, followed by a final round of 18 holes Tuesday.
The Herd is coming off of a fifth-place (tie) finish at the season-opening Murray State Drake Creek Invitational. Simsiriwong was named Conference USA Golfer of the Week after her second-place finish with a 1-under-par 215.
Thompson also had an encouraging start to the 2013 season, finishing tied for 10th at Drake Creek. Entering the final day in a tie for 20th, Thompson jumped 10 spots thanks to a 1-over 72 performance in the final round.
