HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Marshall women’s golf team hasn’t seen a competitive field of action in nearly two weeks. After much preparation, the Thundering Herd is off to finish its fall season at the 2013 Dayton Fall Invitational in Kettering, Ohio.

The 17 teams will have a shotgun start Oct. 21-22, featuring different start times on both days. Monday’s action will tee off at 11 a.m., followed by a 9 a.m. start Tuesday.

Live stats will not be available, but final stats will be provided at the end of each day of competition on

Marshall last competed in the Preview Oct. 7-8, where the squad finished 13th with an 87-over-par 633 final tally.

The Herd had a top 20 individual finish from senior Rachel Thompson (Mansfield, Ohio), who improved her second-round score by three strokes to finish with a 13-over 157 final score. The mark put her in a tie for 13th place. She had a consistent 1-over par 5 scoring – the third best of the tournament.

The squad had a successful first week of competition this fall season, with a top 5 finish in the Murray State Drake Creek Invitational, where junior Korakot Simsiriwong (Narathiwat, Thailand) finished in the top 2.

Simsiriwong’s 215 final tally was four strokes shy of first, but her performance earned her a Conference USA Golfer of the Week honor Sept. 11 – her second all-time.

The Herd struggled to find consistent shooting in the weeks to follow, finishing 12th and 13th in the Cardinal Cup and the Preview, respectively.

Marshall had three top 20 individual finishes in the three tournaments combined, Thompson notched two with a 10th place finish in the Murray State Drake Creek Invitational and 13th in the Preview.

The Herd will be playing on the NCR North Course. The prairie-style course is played at a par-70 and covers a total of 5,872 yards.
