HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Head women’s golf coach Meredith Knight Rowsey announced the signing of Ashley DeMoss and Gabrielle Marcum to National Letters of Intent Friday.
Both are set to join the Thundering Herd for the 2013-14 season.
“One of the things that excited me about Gabby and Ashley is not only their amount of experience playing competitive golf, but their drive to play at the highest level,” 10th year head coach Knight Rowsey said. “Both players have proven they know how to win but more importantly are great kids to have around our program.”
DeMoss, a Pittsburgh, Pa. native, comes to Marshall following a great summer of golf. She won the Plantations Junior Golf Tour event in Raspberry Falls and was the runner-up at the Western Pennsylvania Girls Junior Golf Championship. She also helped her high school, Fox Chapel, win the Pennsylvania Bi-State Team Championship during her junior year.
“Ashley has proven that she can compete with some great players. She has really impressed me with her desire to put in the work to make an immediate impact on our program,” Knight Rowsey said of DeMoss. “I’m really looking forward to watching Ashley grow on and off the golf course.”
Beavercreek, Ohio native Marcum joins the Herd boasting state and conference accolades. She is fresh off an impressive summer, winning three times including the Ohio Girls Junior Championship. Marcum was equally impressive with her high school, Beavercreek in her fall campaign. She picked up a win at the Springboro Invitational as she shot a school record 32 to earn First Team Greater Western Ohio Conference honors.
“Gabby has shown that she can win and wants to prove that at the collegiate level. She is a hard worker and is extremely motivated to improve her game,” Knight Rowsey said of Marcum.
