Women's Soccer Drops Friendly Match to Cincinnati, 2-1|

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Sophomore midfielder Gabby Dyer scored the only goal for the Herd in a 2-1 exhibition decision to Cincinnati Friday at Gettler Stadium.
“It’s the end of preseason and I thought we competed, in many ways, very well,” said Head Coach Kevin Long. “This was great preparation for us going into the regular season.”
The Falls Church, Va., native put one high past Cincinnati goalkeeper Kristina Utley after winning the ball at the top of the box in the fourth minute of play. She led the Herd with two shots.
Mackenzie Reynolds answered for the Bearcats in the 23rd minute with a header off a rebound from the corner, tying the match 1-1. Assists went to Emily Elsbrock and Jae Atkinson.
The Bearcats sealed the win with a goal by Mackenzie Grause off a rebound with 17 seconds remaining in the first half. Laura Rose and Megan Cravenor assisted on the play. The Herd couldn’t find an equalizer in the second half.
Junior goalkeeper Lizzie Kish started in the net for Marshall and rookie Danielle Cushing took over at the start of the second half. Kish made the only two saves of the match for The Herd, while tallying two goals against her.
Utley spent all 90 minutes in goal for Cincinnati, tallying one goal against and one save. The Bearcats led Marshall in shots (13-6) and corners (8-2).
The Herd opens the regular season with the inaugural match at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex vs. Campbell Friday, August 23 at 7:30 p.m.
