Women’s Soccer Suffers 3-0 Defeat at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio – Dayton scored two goals 23 seconds apart in the 73rd minute, which helped seal a 3-0 victory over the Marshall women’s soccer team on Friday, Sept. 1, at Baujan Field.

With the loss, the Herd fell to 0-4 overall on the season, while the Flyers rose to 2-2 overall.

Sophomore Jordan Sackaris (Smithtown, N.Y.), and juniors Julianna Smith (Lothian, Md.) and Jenna Zuzolo (Tipp City, Ohio) had chances on goal in the first half, but all were saved by Kaelyn Johns. The first half ended with both sides level at 0-0.

Marshall led Dayton in shots, 6-3, and shots on goal, 3-2, while the Flyers led in saves, 3-2.

The Flyers broke the deadlock at the 72:35 mark when Madeleine Morrissey tapped in a cross from Micay Livingston to give Dayton a 1-0 lead. The Flyers scored 23 seconds later when Livingston connected with Nadia Pestell’s cross to double Dayton’s lead.



The Flyers closed the game out at the 80:04 mark when Sara Robertson made the score 3-0 after finishing another Pestll pass.

The Herd out-shot Dayton, 15-12, while the Flyers had more shots on goal, 7-5, and saves, 5-4. Smith led Marshall with two shots on goal.

The Herd will return to Hoops Family Field and welcome the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs on Sunday, Sept. 3, at 1 p.m.
