Tulsa, Okla. - Marshall University's women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Sunday at Hurricane Stadium. After opening the first period with two initial goals, Tulsa closed the door in the second by adding an insurance goal within the first twenty minutes of period two. With the defeat The Herd falls to 3-10-3 (1-5-2 C-USA), while The Golden Hurricane improve its record to 10-5-2 (4-3-1 C-USA).
Despite the 3-0 defeat, MU put exceptional pressure on Hurricane goalie Katie Bykowski; firing 13 shots toward the Tulsa net. The Herd was led by Angela DeSumma with six total shots, including three on-goal. Sarah Vinson posted two shots, while a slough of other Marshall players tallied one.
The Herd utilized Lindsey Kerns, Betsy Haugh, and the entire defense to keep the Tulsa attack minimalized as the Golden Hurricane fired 12 shots-on-goal. Due to an early red card for The Herd Tulsa had a one-man advantage throughout the majority of the game.
Marshall returns home next weekend, where The Herd has displayed quality play in the last several weeks, nabbing a victory and two ties. Marshall will face the Houston Cougars Friday evening and The Rice Owls Sunday afternoon. Each game will have a heavy impact on conference rankings, and could dictate MU's playoff hopes.
