March 6, 2014

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Beginning Saturday, Marshall women’s soccer will take the pitch for its first-ever spring soccer season at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex, as the Herd will take on the Cincinnati Bearcats at 5 p.m., coach Kevin Long announced, Thursday. All matches will be free to the public.

“I am excited about the opportunity to play such a challenging schedule in the spring,” Long said. “I look forward to playing our first-ever spring games at home in our wonderful stadium and I can’t wait to see how the players are developing and getting ready for next fall.”

The Thundering Herd will play host to six opponents over a seven-week span, including University of Cincinnati, Ohio University, University of Charleston, Morehead State University, Lincoln Memorial University and Eastern Kentucky University. On April 19, Marshall will travel to Longwood University for a doubleheader with the Lancers and William & Mary.

Seven of the Herd’s eight opponents competed in their respective conference tournaments in the fall, with Morehead State winning the 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Championship and advancing to the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Championship.
