HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall University women’s soccer team unveiled its fall 2012 schedule on Wednesday afternoon, announcing a list of regular season fixtures that will begin on August 17 and end on October 25.
Following a preseason exhibition at Longwood University on August 11, the Thundering Herd will open the season at home against Ball State on August 17 at 3:00 p.m. The Cardinals were 9-9-3 last fall and defeated Marshall 2-0 in Muncie, Ind.
The Herd will then take to the road for consecutive away matches at James Madison University on August 19, and Ohio University on August 26, before returning home to face St. Francis on August 31 at 7:00 p.m. The three opponents were a combined 27-25-8 last season.
A four game road slate will follow the St. Francis match, as Marshall heads away for matchups with Campbell University, Morehead State, Kent State, and Akron. The Herd will then return home for two Conference USA matches against Colorado College and UTEP on September 21 and 23.
The team’s next two home matches against C-USA foes Tulsa and SMU will take place on October 12 and 14, and are sandwiched between road games against other conference opposition. After ending the season with an October 25 road trip to ECU, the Herd will be hoping to participate in the Conference USA Championships in El Paso, Texas, from October 31 to November 4.
Last season Marshall was 4-12-3 overall and 3-3-9 against the upcoming fall’s opponents. With the new, state of the art soccer facility set to be built during the upcoming season, the times and locations for most of the Herd’s 2012 home matches are tentative.
