HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall women’s soccer sophomore forward Erin Simmons has been named one of Conference USA’s Preseason Players to Watch.

The Gahanna, Ohio, native earned All-C-USA third team honors as well as All-Freshman honors for the 2012 season.

Simmons played in all 19 matches for the Herd, starting 18. She scored six goals (tied for best on the team), with two assists. She netted game-winning goals against Morehead State, UTEP and UAB. She also put 22 of her 35 shots on goal and converted all three of her penalty kick attempts.

The annual list, compiled by C-USA coaches, recognizes the top 16 players in the conference as well as the top five teams as preseason favorites. Following the regular season, the top five teams in each division will earn a spot in the 2013 Conference USA Championships, hosted by Rice University from Nov. 4-10.

The Herd begins 2013 regular-season play Friday, Aug. 23 with the inaugural match at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex against Campbell.
