Huntington, W.Va. – The Marshall women’s soccer team defeated Morehead State 2-1 on Friday afternoon behind Megan Tabler’s goal in the second minute of overtime. The Herd held on in the remaining 18 minutes of extra time for the win in their first and only exhibition game of the season.
“We were excited to get on the field and for the season to start” Long said.
Morehead State struck first, scoring in the 60th minute. However Marshall’s Erika Duncan evened the score just minutes later on a long through ball from Kristen Berquist and slipped it past Morehead State’s goalie.
That’s the way it stayed until Tabler netted the game winning goal, capitalizing off an eagles turnover.
“We definitely have things to work on before our next game, which is a regular season game, but I’m happy with our performance” Long said.
The Herd opens regular season play at home on Sunday, August 23 against Cleveland State University. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Sam Hood Field.
