Herd Women’s Soccer to Host Ohio for Final Non-Conference Home Game
The Herd is coming off its first victory of the season
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall women’s soccer team (1-4) will host its final home game of the non-conference schedule when it welcomes the Ohio Bobcats (3-2) on Friday, Sept. 8, at Hoops Family Field.
Marshall has become one the Bobcats’ main rivals at the start of past few seasons with the two having tied in 2016 and Marshall taking the victory the year before. Ohio does lead the series 10-2-2 but hasn't walked away with a victory over the Herd since 2012.
HAVE YOU HERD
The Herd won its first game of the season when it downed Gardner-Webb in a 1-0 overtime thriller on Sunday, Sept. 3. Freshman Molly Preston recorded her first collegiate goal, while sophomore Megan Bonelli collected her first shutout and win of the season. Marshall’s defense shined, as it limited the Runnin’ Bulldogs to four shots and three shots on goal, which were season-lows for the Herd.
LAST TIME AGAINST OHIO
Marshall traveled to Ohio last season when the Thundering Herd came to Chessa Field. It was a hard fought match between both sides that even included Marshall playing a woman down after the 83rd minute but despite the effort, ended in a 2-2 draw.
SCOUTING THE BOBCATS
The Bobcats are coming off a double-overtime 2-1 defeat against the Xavier Musketeers. Allie Curry scored Ohio’s lone goal of the contest in the waning minutes of the match to bring her season total to a team-high two goals. Ohio’s other scorers include Hannah Jaggers, Alivia Milesky and Sydney Leckie, who have each tallied a goal. Milesky and Curry each have four points this season, which are team-highs.
The Bobcats boast a stingy defense that has only surrendered three goals all season. Goalkeeper Erin Beurket has a 0.93 goals allowed average and has made 11 saves on the year.
