HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- Marshall women’s soccer jumps into a four-game road trip for the heart of its Conference USA schedule, as it travels to UAB on Friday, Oct. 8 and Memphis on Sunday, Oct. 10.
The Thundering Herd split for the second-consecutive weekend to sit one game below .500 at 4-5-2, 2-2-0 C-USA. Marshall avenged last season’s loss to Tulsa, defeating the Golden Hurricane 1-0, however, the Herd was unable to snag the weekend sweep, falling 2-0 to SMU on Sunday afternoon.
Erika Duncan chipped in the only goal of the weekend, giving the Herd a victory against Tulsa and making herself Marshall’s all-time leader in game-winning goals with seven.
Lexa Hughes and Lindsey Kerns each saw action between the pipes for MU in only its second home series of the season. The two combined for the Thundering Herd’s fourth shutout of the year.
Marshall opens its weekend in Birmingham, battling the Blazers who sit two points below the Herd in the C-USA rankings. UAB has won only two of its last seven contests but look to retaliate last year’s 1-0 double-overtime loss to the Herd. Friday’s match is set for 8 p.m. at West Campus Field.
The Thundering Herd enters Sunday’s matchup seeking its first-ever win against the defending C-USA Tournament Champions, Memphis. The Tigers are coming off an unbeaten weekend in which it tallied a 2-0 win against Southern Miss and a 1-1 tie against UCF. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
GameTracker will be available for both weekend matches by logging on to the women’s soccer schedule.
