IRVING, Texas- Marshall women’s soccer player Angela DeSumma was voted onto the Conference USA All-Conference Third Team by the league’s 12 coaches on Tuesday, making it the second time that the Doylestown, Pa., native has earned an all-conference accolade since being selected to the All-Freshman team back in 2008.
DeSumma earns the award following a stellar senior season that saw her tally a team-leading six goals and three assists for the Thundering Herd women’s soccer team. The star midfielder tied Lindsey Jayjack (1999-02) as the team’s all-time leader in career assists, with 25, and scored four game-winners for the Herd on the year.
DeSumma’s recognition on the All-C-USA Third Team comes after a 4-12-3 season for the Herd that saw the team finish 10th place in C-USA. She was the only member of the squad to make one of the All-C-USA teams this season.
“Any individual award is a product of great performances from the team that put her in a position to shine,” said Head Coach Kevin Long. “With what she was able to do with the ball in the attack this year, I think she was definitely deserving of the honor, and the team always takes great pride in any individual award one of its members receives.”
The Herd will now await the results of the C-USA All-Academic Team vote, which will be released tomorrow afternoon by the conference. For a complete release on the 2011 C-USA Women’s Soccer Awards, please click here.
