Marcena Bertoldo will return to the Marshall softball team as a student manager for a second year. During her four years as member of the green and white, Bertoldo competed in 216 games, completing 488 at-bats, scoring 78 runs, and was hit by a pitch a Marshall record of 53 times.
During her time, Bertoldo started at third base, second base, and shortstop multiple times. She also appeared on the C-USA commissioner's honor roll four times.
Bertoldo completed her undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in counseling and is currently pursuing her master's degree at Marshall..
2010 (Senior): Started 53 of 55 games at second base...finished the season with 28 hits and 23 runs scored...had a .348 slugging percentage and .317 on-base percentage...led the team in hit-by-pitch with 15, which ranked first in C-USA...was second in the conference in sacrifice bunts with 13...logged a five-game hitting streak, six multiple hit games and two muiltiple RBI games...finished the season with four home runs...in MU single-season records, she concluded her career tied for second in hit-by-pitch (15) and in the career record books ranks first with 53...in NCAA all-time career history, she is tied for sixth with 53...ranked 28th in the nation in hit-by-pitches with .28 per game...named Marshall University's student-athlete of the week on Feb. 16...made her fourth appearance on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
2009 (Junior): Started in 50 games at second base after playing third base as a sophomore...hit her first college home run in the season opener against Seton Hall in the Sportco Kickoff Classic...finished the season with four home runs and 12 RBI...went 3-for-4 with a double and home run against Houston...went 2-for-2 with a run against Cleveland State in game one of a doubleheader...was hit by a pitch against Ohio giving her the school career record of 36...completed the season with 14 HBP on the year and a total of 38...picked up two RBI and a run against Buffalo going 1-for-2...finished second on the team in sacrifice bunts with seven...ranked 26th nationally in hit-by-pitches with .28 per game.
2008 (Sophomore): Started in all 54 games for Marshall...moved from shortstop to third base for her sophomore season...had her first multi-RBI game against College of Charleston going 2-for-3 with three RBI...followed up her performance against the College of Charleston with a 3-for-3 game against the Cougars in the second game at the Red/Black Showcase...batted .228 with 12 RBI and 20 runs...finished with five multi-hit games including two games with three hits...went 3-for-4 against Ohio State, April 2...hit first career triple Feb. 9 against the College of Charleston...had three doubles.
2007 (Freshman): Everyday starter at the short stop position as a freshman...hit .221 on the year and started 57 games...recorded first career hit versus Chattanooga Feb. 16...first career RBI came a day later against Fordham...finished the season with nine RBI, two doubles and 29 hits...second on the team in sacrifice bunts with eight...registered seven steals, which placed her fifth on the team...had six multi-hit games...went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI against UAB March 17...went a perfect 2-for-2 with a run and a stolen base against Morehead State March 27.
High School: Was a four-year letterwinner for coaches Rose Antillion and Ed Altimarano at Rialto High...was a three-time first team All-League selection and a second team All-League pick as a freshman...named Team MVP three times...was team captain during junior and senior seasons.
